The value of having many children

The value of having many children is a very interesting and diverse phenomenon. In advanced societies it occurs rarely. On the contrary, in poor countries, where people experience permanent poverty and beggary, the demographic situation is much better. However, in these countries having many children is a long-standing tradition and people simply follow this tradition and don't think much of financial difficulties they doom themselves to. Agree that it is much easier to decide to do something if other people do the same.

Another case is with large families in the societies, where this phenomenon is not spread and is not popular. What makes some people of western and westernized societies to commit such a heroic deed? There are several reasons for that.

One of these reasons is religiousness of parents. All Abrahamic religions (Christianity, Islam and Judaism) consider children as a gift from on high. The more children a family has, the more is its blessing. Religious people think that if a child is born in their family, it is a good sign, given from God. They take full responsibility for their offspring and are concerned about their future.

There is another group of large families, which are irreligious and for them a large family is an end in itself. Usually the wish to have many children is hereditary. People who were born in large families understand all their advantages and want to carry on this tradition. The main advantages of large families are mutual support, a strong sense of hearth and security, revelry and solidarity despite all possible difficulties, connected mainly with material hardships. Large families favour the development of collective responsibility for each other, they teach their members to sympathise with each other and help each other. Large families think that they will manage to cope with all possible difficulties by joint efforts.
